Want to have smooth glowing skin during winters? Well, like it or not you need to REVAMP your skin care routine. No matter what type of skin you have, you have to take care as dry winter air makes our skin type change. Yeah that’s right! Dry skin becomes drier, oily skin becomes slightly normal and normal skin becomes dry.
Worry not ..Try these easy tips to have smooth glowing skin throughout the cold weather:Dry Skin
Moisturise-Cleanse-Moisturise: People with dry skin cannot do without a moisturiser in winters, as dry skin becomes itchy and scaly during this time :(
Apply olive oil / non-comedogenic cream (which do not clog pores) or milk cream on your face and body and leave it on for 10-15 min before heading for a shower. If you don’t have time in the morning apply oil/ cream before going to bed. After shower, apply a cream based non-comedogenic lotion while your skin is wet, as it locks the moisturiser. Use soap free or glycerine based mild cleanser for bath. Don’t use toner and if you must, then avoid using alcohol based toners. Once a week exfoliate dead skin with a mild exfoliator as dead skin prevents the skin from absorbing the moisture.
DIY: Banana pack- one ripe banana, 1tbsp honey and 1tsp olive oil
Mash the banana and mix it with honey & olive oil. Apply it on your face for 15 min. Rinse it off with lukewarm water for a smooth glowing skin.
Malai( milk cream) Face pack- Mix one spoon malai with one spoon honey, leave it on your face for 15 min and rinse it off with lukewarm water
Oily Skin
Cleanse-Moisturise: If you have oily skin, winter is great for you as dry winter breeze reduces the oil on your face making it less shiny.
But as soon as your face becomes dry after washing sebaceous glands start producing more oil which can lead to acne. Wash your face twice daily; apply water based non-comedogenic moisturiser after each wash to replenish the lost moisture. Use Salicylic acid toner to reduce acne. Exfoliate the dead skin once a week using a product which has calendula, tea tree oil, or cucumber to help soothe the skin; it also helps in controlling the acne.DIY: Papaya Pack- Mash a ripe papaya and apply it all over your face, leave it for 15 min than wash it off with normal water for smooth skin.
Cucumber & Yoghurt Face pack- ½ cucumber, 1 tbsp skimmed youghurt
Grind cucumber to make a smooth paste and mix it with yoghurt, apply this pack for 15 min and then rinse it off with lukewarm water.
Normal Skin
Cleanse-Moisturise: Use a mild cleanser and apply a cream based comedogenic moisturiser after wards. Remove dead skin once a week with a mild exfoliator.
DIY- Banana Facepack- Mash one ripe banana and apply it on your face for 15 min and rinse it off for smooth glowing skin.
Take out 2-3 spoons of full cream milk before boiling and apply it on your face for 15 min and wash it with normal water for a glowing skin/or apply malai on your face before going to bed J You can also take some curd and apply it on your face for 15 min and wash it off with warm water to get an instant relief from the dry skin.
**Must for all Skin Types:
Sunscreen (SPF15) is a must in this weather so don’t forget to apply sunscreen 30 minutes before stepping out.
Drink 6-7 glasses of water and add omega 3 rich food to your diet for a healthy glowing skin.
Use warm water for a bath, avoid using hot scalding water.
Don’t sit near heater, keep the temperature medium…. Use humidifier as it adds moisture to the air.
Don’t wear wool directly on your skin as it can make your skin itchy always wear a layer of cotton before putting on a woollen sweater.
Soft PINK lips :)
Baby Soft lips are a dream during winters as most of us suffer from dry, chapped lips during this season. The reason being the skin on lips is very thin and has no oil glands to prevent it from chapping. Therefore lip balm is a must, but avoid using petroleum based lip balm as it clogs the pores on your lips, making it difficult to absorb the moisture. Therefore go for a shea butter or jojoba oil based lip balm for better results.
* Do not lick your lips as it makes your lips drier, instead use a lip balm, carry lip balm in your purse and apply it whenever required.
DIY:
Sugar Scrub-Take half teaspoon of sugar and add two drops of olive oil. Scrub your lips gently for 3-5 minutes and wash it off normal water to get rid of dead skin immediately. Follow it with a lip balm.
Malai pack: Mix 1 teaspoon of malai and 2-3 drops of lemon juice and keep it in fridge for an hour. Apply this every night on your lips before going to bed for softer smoother lips.
